I should mention that I too had this attitude. I'm not trying to make any statement saying that everyone around me was paranoid but I wasn't.

I remember at the beginning of the pandemic, getting sick with Covid was treated like a coin toss on whether you'd die or not. Every time news came that a missionary got infected, everyone else in the UOM became worried about what would happen to them.
"Oh snap, I was in the same room as that guy 6 days ago! I hope I don't start showing symptoms..."
(and afterward, others would want to hear their "survival story")
So when we got the news that Elder Lassy might be infected, the mission nurse ordered us to not leave out house for the next 2 weeks... We treated the place like there were invisible venomous spiders that would bite us if we put our paws on the wrong surfaces.
